What’s a “Momma Muse”?

My Momma Muses are the women I most admire who are also, as it happens, mommas themselves. These are an inspiring collection of women I’ve met through my personal and professional life who seem to have the whole balance figured out (though I’m sure they’ll argue that point). It’s my hope that by sharing their stories, what inspires them, what moves them, their tricks for getting through the day running two businesses (their own defined by the government + a household) that you yourself will find a renewed strength in yourself and your abilities. You’re capable and strong, and having a community around to remind you of that is the whole point of thing thing, right? Okay now, let’s get to it.

What does your typical day look like?
Though each day is a little different, a typical one kicks off at 5:30AM. My husband Brett and I wake up 30 minutes before our littles to make coffee, get ourselves dressed, and check any urgent emails. Then it's full court press to get the kiddos dressed, fed and off to school for the day. We get to our office (just a quick walk around the corner) a little before 8. On any given day I deal with a mix of design, marketing, event planning, employee coordination, production needs, social media and everything else in between! After a full day of BURU, we try to be home between 4-5 to have time with Olive Bee and Schafer before bath and bed time. Once they are asleep, Brett and I have a little "us" time with red wine, adult conversation OR corny TV ;)

What’s your favorite part of your day?
Walking in the door to hugs from our little people. You just can't beat that.

What’s the one thing you hope your children have learned from you that they will share with future generations?

Work hard, play hard. See the world any chance you get!

Any tricks for keeping the balance between work and family?

What is balance? My trick is to not beat myself up. Some days are more family. Some days are more work. Some days I eat salads. Some days I have candy corn for breakfast. Whatever works.

What's the best life advice or lesson you remember receiving from your own mom?

Humor is the best medicine. There is a chance that I actually laugh inappropriately at times, based on this advice. Ha ha! But I do believe that laughter has a healing effect, and even more importantly, it's contagious which helps others!

What’s your most treasured accessory?

When I turned 30, my husband had a gold bangle custom made for me that has a mix of gifted and family diamonds bezeled into the top. I never take it off, and every time I look at it I'm reminded of loved ones and special life moments.

What accessory makes you feel most like a woman?

Big sunglasses and red lipstick.
